Bulgarian Experience in Teaching of School Geometry for Future Mathematics Teachers
Summary:
I will talk about my experience, as a professor in the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at the University of Sofia, teaching the course “School Geometry for Future Mathematics Teachers”. First, I will briefly describe the educational system and the state of geometry in Bulgarian schools. I will also explain the organization of the mathematics teacher preparation. This information is needed to better understand the role of geometry in teacher preparation.
The core focus of my presentation will be a comprehensive exploration of the School Geometry course. This exploration will encompass its philosophical underpinnings, organizational structure, and content nuances. By delving into these aspects, I intend to provide a holistic understanding of the course’s significance in the broader context of teacher preparation. I will not only highlight the strengths of the course and address the reasons that make the course difficult for the students.
